You’d think a (gorgeous) woman who makes a living trying on clothes and mastering her angles on camera could easily nail maternity style. But it seems even models have trouble styling a growing baby bump.
Eight-year veteran of Ford Models Lauren Good sat down with us on set in Venice Beach last month and confirmed it – maintaining diversified, yet polished style while pregnant is challenging, no matter who you are.
“I remember thinking, ‘I’m just going to buy one pair of jeans and one pair of leggings and survive,’” Good told us of her first pregnancy. “I didn’t want to spend a lot on clothes I knew I’d only wear pregnant for such a short period of time.”
Showing up to the shoot wearing an easy pink shirtdress, Good described her style as “comfort casual – chic things with a minimalist vibe.”
Still, even minimalists have their limits.
“I can’t even look at the clothes I wore with my first pregnancy now,” she said. “I just over-wore them.”
On set, Good said she was surprised to find so many non-maternity silhouettes working for her (33 week!) bump. “I love that Tilden’s selection features mostly non-maternity brands and cuts,” she told us. “Because they’re not just for maternity, you’re willing to spend much more.”
Good said she was also a big fan of Rachel Pally’s maxis, which come with a raw, unfinished hem for a do-it-yourself customizable length. “I love that the hem comes long,” she said. “It’s great for [tall] people like me because maxis are short a lot of the time – especially when you add the bump.”
Already a mom to two-year old Benjamin (and Puggle, Lucy), Good is no stranger to the ups and downs of motherhood.
“It’s the best, hardest job I’ve ever had,” she reflected on parenting. Before signing with Ford, Good was a collegiate volleyball player (which explains the legs for days). Her time as competitive athlete is no doubt paying dividends now that free time is spent chasing around a toddler.
Good said the unconditional love that comes with being a mom makes the hard days more than worth it.
“I just love the love,” she gushed. “I love the way [Benjamin] adores me. It feels so good to be loved like that.”
And just in case you you’re under the impression that models don't eat – Good indulged us in a mid-shoot cookie break. “I can’t resist a good chocolate chip cookie,” she said with bright eyes.
Neither can we, Lauren.
